on October bus trip (cont'd)
Beale Street--You will probably notice first the wonderful 9 1/2 ft.
bronze statue of Elvis when
you get there on Beale Street! Just across the street from the statue
was where Lansky Bros.
Men's Shop was located which supplied Elvis with those flashy early
clothes [moved to Peabody
Hotel in 1981]. Then from 1997-2003, Elvis Presley's Memphis restaurant
was located there. On the next 3 blocks are restaurants and shops; the
Hard Rock Cafe has quite a few Elvis pictures on
display. The group will eat lunch on Beale St. If you would like to eat
lunch where Rick and
others eat, stay close by, but you are on your own; you just need to
meet everybody back at
the bus.
Sun Studio and cafe-- Nice guided tour which starts upstairs in cafe.
Several displays for
artists who recorded at Sun and are part of early rock 'n' roll history.
Includes video and
sound. Then the tour continues in Sun Studio. There will be time to
relax in the cafe and to
check out their Sun Records souvenir collection. There is a certain spot
where Elvis liked to
sit, so hand your camera to someone, and get that picture of you and
Rick there!!
Casino hotel (Tunica, MS--about 35 miles south of Graceland, but don't
know which one yet)--A
great place to stay while on tour in Memphis. If you're not ready to
retire to your room for the
night, go to the dining room or to the casino where you are sure to find
others from the tour
group. If at the moment you don't see Rick with some of the fans or in
the dining room, he can
probably be found at one of the casino game tables. His game is "craps";
if there is room there
at the table, you can watch, but unless you are familiar with the game,
it is hard to follow as
there is more to it than just rolling the dice! Ha! In the casino,
drinks are most likely on the
house and we all enjoy watching others in our group get lucky and walk
away with big money! Ha!
No, really. Some do just that! So nice, too, that hotel guests are given
free meal vouchers;
hopefully they will be for breakfast and dinner buffets! Such a great
benefit!!
Birmingham, Ala.--On the last trip, some of us walked over to a
convenience store near
our motel to pick up some food and drink for our last time to party
before heading on home the
next morning.
Will finish with my comments tomorrow--Kay |
